Happy half-hour: twenty one

Sketch for an empty book. This piece was a 30 minute exploration of the format of an instruction booklet I had lying around, and the structure of the content within. There were two threads to this sketch: looking at the shapes of the  content on the separate pages and also the format of the the […]

Happy half-hour: twenty

Today’s piece is a reprise of the collage I created for Happy half-hour: seventeen. I worked on top of the previous  collage, adding in more layers of the book off-cuts I had left over.

Happy half-hour: nineteen

Today’s 30 minutes was spent in the company of @Jason_Cobb, on a ‘poncey South Bank photo shoot’. I discovered some lovely new bits of Bermondsey – and had a good old catch-up – as a consequence. For a change, I went equipped with my little point-and-shoot camera, so the quality of these is variable. The […]

Happy half-hour: eighteen

Happy half-hour eighteen is a timelapse video that I shot on a journey from Epsom to Waterloo, for Happy half-hour fifteen, with soundtrack added. Again the audio was created using my phone in 30 minutes.

Happy half-hour: seventeen

Today’s half-hour was spent making a collage from the off-cuts of yesterday’s book-in-a-box. The images are fairly self-explanatory. The plan is to work further into this collage at some point and build the layers up to make the whole thing much more three dimensional.

Happy half-hour: fifteen

Happy half-hour fifteen is a timelapse video that I originally attempted to capture last week. Shot on my journey from Epsom to Waterloo, I decided to capture the whole distance, so filmed for slightly over the alloted 30 minutes. Still needs work, and a soundtrack, but am sure I will develop this idea further.

Happy half-hour: fourteen

Today I spent my 30 minutes on a first draft of a ‘book-in-a-box’. As with a few of the Happy half-hours, this piece started from a found item: the 8×10 photo box (see below) that I discovered in the street one night on my way home. I have planned to use this for months years […]

Happy half-hour: thirteen

The attached video is a timelapse recorded over 30 minutes from the top deck of the number 8 bus. Today’s challenge was to compose a soundtrack for said video, originally posted as my Happy half-hour number nine. Again the soundtrack was created using Loopy. In 3/4 time. Below is the result.

Happy half-hour: twelve

Today’s 30 minutes saw me creating a stop motion video from the huge pile of envelopes I keep to make books with. One frame per envelope. The music on the video is an excerpt from When I Sleep I Dream by Funkturm.
